Formed in 2003 under the name of Diverse Media Canada Inc, the founder Rick Hyne wanted to build a business in marketing, photography and interactive web site design.
At the same time, Hyne was asked to lend a hand into the affairs of a privately owned commercial real-estate company in Downtown Nanaimo.
After moving Diverse Media Canada into new offices owned by the property company, Hyne quickly realized that his attention was being pulled into the property company and a downtown under siege by homelessness, open air drug markets and a bad perception problem.
Appointed as an officer for the property company, Hyne began to build the resources needed to run the company through Diverse Media Canada and went to work to influence the clean-up of downtown Nanaimo, build the property company and refill spaces left by vacating tenants.
In 2009 Diverse Media Canada was renamed to Shepherd Protective Services Inc to better reflect the business of security and the protection of people, places and assets.

Today, Shepherd Protective Services Inc is a progressive provider of facility or building services, federally incorporated, BC registered with a focus on Vancouver Island.
As a business registered under the Security Services Act with the Ministry of Justice, we are able to offer a full range of facility solutions including security and surveillance.
Our core services are offered on a subscription basis for one or more years offering a layer of facility support between those that use the building to those who own it.
We operate the core processes of your building, allowing its users to do what they do best without worrying about their surroundings.
When you partner with us, you are gaining a single point of contact for all those ‘Does anyone know …” type questions.
We are not the handyman, nor are we the janitor, although we can offer you those services, or supervise the ones you have.
Our logo is a German Shepherd looking from above. As most know the German Shepherd is a loyal, trustworthy and dedicated partner. Quinley is our corporate mascot and travels with our President, Rick Hyne.
Over the last 10 years, we have managed over 54,000 square feet located across four buildings bringing those buildings from high vacancy and disrepair to almost all fully occupied with a mixture of professionals, arts, food services and various medical services.
We are now looking to work with new opportunities allowing us to expand on our skills in negotiating, facilitating and problem solving.
